2011 Films #140 - 157

Down to the end of the year, and I have spent quite a lot of time watching movies, and will still watch a fair amount this month, since it looks to be a pretty awesome month for films.

#140 - The Thing

Really disappointing. Great cast, but does no justice to the original, which is one of my all-time favorite movies. Also, the blood does not hiss when burned in this. What a load of crap.

#141 - Submarine

Another film I missed this past year at Sundance, and was glad to have finally seen it. Definitely loved it. Plays out as like a British Wes Anderson film, but has its own unique quirks. Check it out.

#142 - The Human Centipede 2: Full Sequence

What a treat this was! The best sequel I’ve ever seen. Delicious through and through. Genius!

#143 - Martha Marcy May Marlene

Probably the movie I wanted to see the most and didn’t see coming out of Sundance, and ended up being really disappointed in it. I’d like to see it again, as I had many problems with it on my first viewing. Really didn’t find a lot of substance in it at all.

#144 - Apollo 18

Typical found footage stuff. Not one of the best, but still kind of fun.

#145 - Mother’s Day

A decent horror flick, with plenty of outrageous kills that you would expect from someone who did plenty of work with the Saw films.

#146 - Shark Night

When I watch a movie called Shark Night, I expect to see a lot of brutally hilarious kills. Instead we get a handful of mildly laughable ones, and a bunch of disappointing ones. Go watch Pirahna instead, or even Sharktopus.

#147 - The Devil’s Double

Pretty ridiculous. Definitely an interesting take on what it could’ve been like to be the double for Uday Hussein, but it gets a bit muddled as it progresses, and becomes fairly extravagant in everything that goes down.

#148 - Beginners

It took me about 10 different efforts to see this and when I did I really enjoyed this quite a bit. The acting is great all around. It has been getting a lot of recognition and awards over what I think are better films, but still is a great film.

#149 - The Change-Up

I really dropped the ball on this. What a piece of garbage. Don’t waste your time.

#150 - The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part One

Another disaster of a Twilight movie. That being said…I’ll be seeing the final one.

#151 - Like Crazy

Really dug this quite a bit, but as it is about long-distance relationships, and I’m in a long-distance relationship, I probably got a bit more out of it than most. Still solid film. Wish I could grow filthy facial hair like Anton.

#152 - The Muppets

If you like anything to do with The Muppets, go see this. If you don’t like them, you have no soul.

#153 - Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop

A pretty hilarious look at Conan’s travels, and how he really was just winging it the whole time. Pretty honest look at how travelling frequently to perform can wear on someone.

#154 - The Descendants

Another great film from Alexander Payne. Go see this. Clooney is fantastic, and the entire supporting cast is also phenomenal.

#155 - Hugo

Scorcese’s love letter to film, and a beautiful film overall. Great use of 3D, and one of my favorites of this year. Check it out, and be sure to see it in 3D while you still can.

#156 - In Time

Cool concept and world, poor execution. Could have been a great sci-fi film, but ends up as a lackluster version of Bonnie and Clyde. Too bad.

#157 - The Artist

What an awesome film. Deserves a lot of attention as the awards season approaches, and should probably get some wins. See it immediately.

That’s all folks.
